William Brownfield Mulberry Purple Madras Pattern Cup Saucer and Underplate 1880

Description

Brownfield & Son Mulberry Purple Cup, saucer, and underplate in the Madras pattern, 1880. This ironstone 3 piece set is in good antique condition, no chips, cracks, or repairs. The approximate measurements are: cup, 3” tall x 3 ¼” across the top, deep saucer, 4 5/8” across x 1” deep. The underplate is approx. 7” across. The saucer is marked Madras, WB & S, England, the cup is marked England, and the plate has impressed Brownfield, a transfer mark with Madras, WB & S along with a 5/80 date. The transfer on all are very good with minimal crazing and the underside has some fine crazing and some discoloration on the saucer typical of 140 year old English ironstone pottery.
