Description
For your consideration is a historic, World War II, Colonial, US Navy, Mark 1 knife. The knifehas
been used, sharpened and carried. The blade looks to have been reworked on the end towards the tip. It comes with an old handmade sheath. The snap on the retaining strap does not work.
This is a type of the Mark I Navy knife. The Mark I was a Navy utility knife with a 5 inch blade. No two of the U.S. Navy Mark I knives are the same. All are made different and marked different. Blades are found with a variety of finishes, including blued, parkerized and bright. The Mark I was supplied by 10 different manufacturers. The handles were made by a variety of materials including steel, wood, aluminum and plastic. There are nearly 40 variations of this knife.
The knife is around 9 1/4" long with a blade that is around 4 1/2". The pommel is made of plastic due to wartime shortages of metals. It does have patina, stains and light pitting.
