:  Here is a spectacular, lavishly illustrated survey of jewelry – a unique compendium of designs from every age. Throughout history, artists and craftsmen have produced original variations on the basic repertoire of articles – pins, headdresses, earrings, necklaces, pedants and rings – yet, despite geographical and time differences, certain key motifs and styles recur time after time. .
The hundreds of examples in this volume have all been chosen by seven specialist authors – all experts in their field – who provide succinct explanatory texts and comprehensive captions. Each of the chronologically organized chapters focuses on the dominant designers and craftsmen of its time and considers the particular events and developments that shaped the evolution of jewelry through the centuries. The dazzling color illustrations are grouped according to motifs and styles, providing a clear picture of the main trends and influences of each period.
The “Jewelry Source Book” begins by tracing the astounding achievements of the ancient world: the Egyptians and the Etruscans, the precious gems and gold of classical Greece, the brilliant gold work of the Dark Ages. The jewelry of Medieval Europe follows; gold jewels set with sapphires, rubies, emerald and diamonds, great cameo brooches, the richness of enameling, and the newly learned technique of diamond cutting.
Next comes the work of the Renaissance craftsmen, and the lavish settings, elaborately cut gems and fine gold work of the French Empire and the English Regency. Mass production and the discovery of new sources of gold and diamonds gave enormous scope to Victorian jewelers, while Art Nouveaux designers achieved shimmering light effects with mother-of-pearl, ivory and iridescent glass. Here, too, is extravagant Art Deco costume jewelry in jet, bronze and lacquer. Modernism heralded a rebirth of jewelry as an art form, and the 1970’s and 80’s have brought an exciting use of new materials such as titanium and acrylic, and experimentation with new techniques.
Stunning to look at, this informative and lively selection of the world’s jewelry heritage will be of immense appeal to collectors, dealers, designers, historians and everyone who appreciates the timeless appeal of jewelry.  With more than 400 illustrations in full color.

:  I chose this book because I study jewelry and I recommend the book to anybody who is doing the same.
    REVIEW
:  This is a good book for any jewelry designer who wishes to research jewelry trends through history. It is a very useful guide for a historical overview of jewelry. For those more interested in detailed information on a particular time period though I would recommend a book more specific the time period of interest. With that in mind, I thought that this book was very well done. The pictures are large and clear, enabling a good view of details. The accompanying text is also very informative for the given time periods.

    ABOUT US:
Most of the items I offer come from the collection of a family friend who was active in the field of Archaeology for over forty years.  However many of the items also come from purchases I make in Eastern Europe, India, and from the Levant (Eastern Mediterranean/Near East) from various institutions and dealers.  Though I have always had an interest in archaeology, my own academic background was in sociology and cultural anthropology.  After my retirement however, I found myself drawn to archaeology as well.  Aside from my own personal collection, I have made extensive and frequent additions of my own via purchases on Ebay (of course), as well as many purchases from both dealers and institutions throughout the world - but especially in the Near East and in Eastern Europe.  I spend over half of my year out of the United States, and have spent much of my life either in India or Eastern Europe.  In fact much of what we generate on Yahoo, Amazon and Ebay goes to support The Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, as well as some other worthy institutions in Europe connected with Anthropology and Archaeology.
I acquire some small but interesting collections overseas from time-to-time, and have as well some duplicate items within my own collection which I occasionally decide to part with.  Though I have a collection of ancient coins numbering in the tens of thousands, my primary interest is in ancient jewelry.  My wife also is an active participant in the "business" of antique and ancient jewelry, and is from Russia.  I would be happy to provide you with a certificate/guarantee of authenticity for any item you purchase from me.  There is a fee for mailing under separate cover.  Whenever I am overseas I have made arrangements for purchases to be shipped out via domestic mail.  If I am in the field, you may have to wait for a week or two for a COA to arrive via international air mail.  But you can be sure your purchase will arrive properly packaged and promptly - even if I am absent.  And when I am in a remote field location with merely a notebook computer, at times I am not able to access my email for a day or two, so be patient, I will always respond to every email.  Please see our
