With his iconic seating collection, Harry Bertoia transformed industrial wire rods into a new furniture form. The events that made this work possible began a decade earlier at Cranbrook Academy of Art, when Bertoia met Florence Knoll (then Florence Schust). Years later, the Italian-born designer was invited to work for Florence and her husband, Hans Knoll. Bertoia was given the freedom to work on whatever suited him, without being held to a strict design agenda, and the result of this arrangement was the Bertoia Seating Collection (1952). Featuring a delicate filigreed appearance that’s supremely strong, these airy seats are sculpted out of steel rods. In his art, Bertoia experimented with open forms and metal work, and these chairs were an extension of that work. “If you look at the chairs, they are mainly made of air, like sculpture,” said Bertoia. “Space passes through them.” After designing his seating collection, Bertoia returned to focusing mostly on sculpture. This is the authentic Bertoia Chair produced by Knoll. The Knoll logo is stamped into its base. Made in Italy. The White and Black frames can be used outdoors with limited exposure to the elements. The Chrome frame is not for outdoor use.

Shipping and Delivery:
Our shipping methods are determined by the type of item. Our available shipping methods are Fedex, Threshold and White Glove/In-Home delivery. Depending on location, some items might require a shipping quote our cost and delivery time could vary considerably. Smaller items tend to ship FedEx, and most large furniture pieces ships with full-service In-Home Delivery, which includes placement in your room of choice, assembly and removal of all packaging.
FedEx Delivery:*
Smaller parcels will be delivered to your door Tuesday–Saturday. Tracking information will be provided once your order leaves our warehouse. Typical delivery takes 5–10 business days from date of shipment. Parcels with a total combined selling price over 0 require a direct signature from the buyer. Tracking number's will be provided via eBay or e-mail.
Threshold Delivery:*
Larger parcels will be delivered over your threshold unless destination is a multi-unit building, in which case they will be left inside building entrance, not at your door. Typical delivery takes 1–3 weeks from date of shipment within the contiguous U.S. Includes an appointment with a 4-hour delivery window coordinated by an agent. Excludes unpacking, assembly and removal of packing materials. Please note: Deliveries to remote areas without highway access may take longer than usual
White Glove/In-Home Delivery:*
Larger parcels will be delivered into your space and placed as specified. Typical delivery takes 1–3 weeks from date of shipment within the contiguous U.S. Includes an appointment with a 4-hour delivery window coordinated by an agent, unpacking, assembly, placement in your room of choice and removal of packing materials. Excludes wall mounting, electrical work, structural changes, assembly of shelving and removal of non-DWR items. This method is sometimes required for select items subject to damage due to their size, weight or fragility.*Please note: Deliveries to remote areas without highway access may take longer than usual
Local Pickup:
When available, we offer free local pickup where the item is located at the time of purchase. Those locations are DWR Outlets located in Brooklyn, NY; Yonkers, NY; Oxnard, CA; Vero Beach, FL. Please make arrangements to pick up your items within 3 days of sale and/or contact us for more information.
International shipping:
Our items are designed and packaged for delivery within the contiguous U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Canada (limitations apply). We do not offer shipping or freight forwarding to international destinations; however, we can ship to a domestic freight forwarder of your choosing for international delivery
